The Tuscumbia Police Department has transferred its investigation into the injury of Deshler High School football player August Borden to the Franklin County Juvenile Probation Office, with assistance from the Madison County District Attorney’s Office, according to WAAY 31. Borden, 16, sustained a skull fracture and concussion on August 19 and is continuing a slow recovery. His family said he is still dealing with headaches, blurred vision, exhaustion, and weight loss, and has no memory of the incident. Tuscumbia City Schools acknowledged public concern in a statement, saying employees immediately called 911 and followed emergency procedures until paramedics arrived within minutes. The district noted that no security cameras cover the area where the incident occurred and said the investigation has been turned over to law enforcement. Counseling has been offered to students and staff. Borden’s family has voiced frustration with what they see as a lack of transparency from school officials but remain hopeful about his long-term recovery.
