On Friday Morning, county leaders and community members celebrated the groundbreaking for the Lawrence County Health Department at its future location at 1601 Liberty Avenue in Lawrenceburg. A project 3 years in the making, County Health Director Devin Ezell said that the motivation for a better location came after watching a new mother push a baby stroller down Buffalo Road to receive services. The new 12,500 square foot location will include a drive-thru component and will enable better servicing and easier access for citizens needing primary and dental care, as well as WIC and other assistance. The state provided $4.2 million in funding for the project, with federal COVID funds covering the remaining $1.2 million. Mayor Blake Lay and County Executive David Morgan expressed how beneficial the new Health Department will be to the area and how vital a role teamwork across community, county and state officials played. Executive Morgan reflected on how his family growing up heavily depended on the Health Department for services and highlighted that no local tax money was spent on the project. Wold Architects and Engineers is the firm responsible for the building design and was on hand, along with Tyler Doss of Doss Brothers’ Construction. Doss Brothers were able to expedite construction and have already begun laying the building foundation.
