State Senator Page Walley highlighted the economic benefits of tourism in Senate District 26, where visitor spending topped $160 million, according to the latest report. Tourism in the district, which includes Chester, Fayette, Hardeman, Hardin, Haywood, Lawrence, McNairy, and Wayne Counties, supports approximately 1,200 jobs. The sector also generated more than $8.6 million in state taxes and $7.1 million in local taxes, helping the average household save around $191 in taxes. Senator Walley emphasized that tourism remains a key driver of economic opportunity in rural communities. He noted that the district’s scenic parks, rivers, and rich musical and cultural heritage attract visitors, fueling growth that benefits small businesses, creates jobs, and helps reduce the tax burden on local families. Every county in District 26 saw millions in visitor spending, reflecting strong regional appeal across West and Middle Tennessee. Senator Walley thanked local tourism partners and reaffirmed his commitment to promoting tourism, preserving the region’s heritage, and supporting local communities.
