A father was critically injured during a fire at a Spring Hill home early Monday morning, WKRN reports. Firefighters were called to a residence on Charles Lane just after 4 a.m., where the fire had spread from the back deck into the house.

The Spring Hill Fire Department said the father was able to get his son and daughter to safety before firefighters arrived. He was hospitalized with critical injuries from heat exposure and thermal burns, while a woman and the children were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. All four family members suffered smoke inhalation, and two sustained burns.

Firefighters noted that the smoke alarms in the home alerted the family in time. The fire caused extreme heat and zero visibility inside, and the ceiling began to collapse as crews attempted to extinguish the blaze.

Neighbors have rallied around the family, helping care for their dogs and providing clothes, blankets, toys, and other essentials. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and no additional information has been released.
