The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) announced that all lane closures on interstates and state routes will be suspended for the Labor Day holiday travel period. Construction crews will halt lane closures from noon on Friday, August 29, through 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 2, allowing motorists to travel with fewer delays. Lane closures will be paused to help travelers reach their destinations more quickly and safely, while also protecting the safety of HELP Truck drivers and other first responders. Drivers are reminded to move over and slow down in construction zones, as speeding where workers are present can result in fines ranging from $250 to $500, court fees, and potential increases in insurance premiums. Although lane closures will be stopped, workers will remain on-site in many construction zones, and motorists are urged to obey posted speed limits. Real-time updates are available through TDOT’s SmartWay traffic cameras at www.TNSmartWay.com/Traffic or by dialing 511 for statewide travel information. Drivers are also encouraged to check road conditions before traveling and avoid using cell phones while behind the wheel.
