Unemployment rose in nearly every Tennessee county in July due to seasonal factors such as school breaks, according to the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development (TDLWD).
Rates increased in 92 of the state’s 95 counties, with three counties remaining unchanged. Fifty-five counties reported rates below 5%, while 40 counties were at 5% or higher.
Sevier County posted the state’s lowest rate at 3.3%, followed by Cheatham County at 3.4%. Five counties — Wilson, Williamson, Sumner, Dickson, and Davidson — each reported 3.6%.
Weakley County had the highest unemployment rate at 8.5%, a jump of 3.5 percentage points from June. Greene County followed at 6.8%, and Perry County at 6.7%.
Statewide data for August will be released September 18. A full breakdown of July county rates is available at www.tn.gov/workforce.
