Matthew Byrd, a Lawrence County man originally arrested in April 2025, appeared in circuit court this week to face charges of stalking and harassment. Both offenses are classified as Class A misdemeanors, each carrying a maximum sentence of 11 months and 29 days in jail.

The case was investigated by the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, involving multiple incidents that occurred between April 8, 2024, and November 7, 2024.

Byrd waived his right to a trial and entered into a best interest plea agreement on both counts. He was placed on probation for 11 months and 29 days on each charge, to be served consecutively. The court also granted a judicial diversion, and Byrd was ordered to have no contact with the victim or the victim’s family.
