On Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at approximately 6:20 p.m., Lawrence County Fire Rescue responded to two lightning-related emergencies in the Ethridge Fire District.

The first call came from a residence on Buffalo Road near Flatwoods Road, where a lightning strike in the yard caused a resident on the porch under a metal covering to experience its effects. The individual was not directly struck but felt numbness and was transported to Southern Tennessee Regional Health System Lawrenceburg for evaluation.

Around the same time, units were dispatched to a field fire about two miles away. The fire was determined to have been sparked by another lightning strike and was contained without further damage.

Authorities remind the public that lightning can strike miles from an active storm. Safety tips include moving indoors immediately after hearing thunder, avoiding porches or partially covered areas, and steering clear of open fields, isolated trees, and water.

No further injuries were reported.
