Friends of Lawrence County Animals (FOLCA) has announced that the Dr. Dan G. Jennings Intake and Quarantine Center will soon become a reality, made possible by a founding gift from Betty and Jim Bush and continued community support.
The facility will serve as a safe intake and quarantine space for dogs entering the county shelter system, ensuring they receive medical care and protection before adoption or transfer. FOLCA leaders say the center represents a significant step forward in animal welfare for Lawrence County.
The project honors the late Dr. Dan G. Jennings, a Lawrenceburg veterinarian who passed away earlier this year. Jennings practiced veterinary medicine locally for 52 years before retiring in February. Known for his skill, compassion, and dedication to both animals and people, he was a respected community leader and advocate for animal welfare.
Jennings played a key role in launching Lawrence County SNIPS!, the county’s first spay-neuter initiative, which has serviced nearly 1,500 animals since its inception. His focus on prevention and community-based solutions continues to guide FOLCA’s work.
To help fund the new center, FOLCA will host An Evening with Friends at Soulshine Farm on September 6. Proceeds will go directly toward the project. Donations may also be made online at www.folcatn.org.
