A mother of two was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Maury County on August 7 around 8:45 p.m. Rachel Jones, 33, was walking west on State Route 7 near Industrial Park Road when she was struck by an unknown vehicle or object. The driver did not stop after the collision.
A witness at the scene reported that Jones had been driving a car that had run out of oil and locked up. The witness attempted to help by giving Jones a jump start, but the car would not start. Jones was reportedly upset and crying at the time.
Friends and family have expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Jones as a caring mother and gentle person. A GoFundMe page created for her daughters has raised more than $15,000 so far.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol has not released details about the vehicle involved and is seeking information from the public. Anyone with knowledge about the crash is encouraged to contact THP Lawrenceburg at 800-736-1759.
