Florence police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man wanted in connection with a downtown fight that occurred early Sunday morning.
According to the Florence Police Department, officers responded to a report of a fight in progress around 1:50 a.m. on August 10 in the 100 block of North Court Street. While officers were working to break up the initial disturbance, another officer arriving to assist saw a separate fight happening nearby.
Police say the officer deployed pepper spray toward both individuals involved in that altercation, then took the first man to the ground. The second man began walking away and was also taken to the ground and handcuffed.
As the officer attempted to control the situation, a large crowd gathered dangerously close, blocking the officer’s access to the first man and allowing him to leave the scene before he could be taken into custody.
Teondre Hubbard, 21, of Florence, was arrested for disorderly conduct and later released from the Lauderdale County Detention Center on a $500 bond. Police say he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Authorities are now trying to identify the second man, who was photographed during the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Florence Police Department at 256-760-6500, message the department on social media, or leave an anonymous tip through the department’s app or by texting “FPDTIP” plus the message to 274637.
