Lauderdale SD Issues Scam Warning

The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department is warning residents of a “final notice” scam.  Several people have reported being contacted by someone claiming to represent the Alabama Department of Transportation.  They tell the victim that they have a final noticed to pay an outstanding traffic ticket.  Should they not comply, the caller threatens that their vehicle registration will be suspended and driving privileges revoked, and that the action will affect your credit score and possibly lead to prosecution.  They say that you must pay immediately or else suffer the consequences.  Anyone who receives such a call is reminded not to give out any personal information and contact your local law enforcement agency and report it.
