One Inmate Dead, Two Hospitalized After Altercation at Wayne County Prison

An inmate is dead and two others were hospitalized following a violent altercation at South Central Correctional Facility (SCCF) in Wayne County on Wednesday evening.

According to CoreCivic, the private company that operates the facility for the state, staff responded to a physical fight involving multiple inmates around 5:30 p.m. inside a housing unit. They found three injured individuals at the scene.

Two inmates were airlifted to a nearby hospital, while a third was transported by EMS and later died from his injuries. CoreCivic reports that one of the injured inmates has since returned to the facility, while the other remains hospitalized.

No further details have been released about the cause of the altercation or the identities of those involved.
