Howard Lewis “H.L.” Butler, 91, of Greenhill, AL, passed away on Monday, August 4, 2025, at North Alabama Medical Center.  H.L. worked as a carpenter and later retired from Reynolds Metals after 32 years.  He enjoyed gardening, goat farming, quail hunting, junking and reading and studying the Bible.  He was a lifelong member of Shiloh Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon.

Survivors include:

Loving wife of 67 years:  Shirley Arnett Butler

Daughters:  Angie Green(Jerry), Becky James(Tommy) & Amy Roberson(Bobby)

Grandchildren:  Heath Green(Bridgett), Landon Tatum, Lana Weeks(Jason),

Josh James, Emma Thigpen(Hank) & Olivia Danley(Jonah)

Great grandchildren:  Alexis Green, Aubrey Green, Jack Thigpen, Veronica Carter &

Trent Carter

Great-great grandchildren:  Jasper Oliver & Reed Sartin

Visitation will be Friday, August 8, 2025, from 1:00pm – 3:00pm at Greenhill Funeral Home.  The funeral service will follow at 3:00pm, in the funeral home chapel with McKinley Pate & Hoby Grace officiating.  Burial will be at Shiloh Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be:  Wayne Fowler, Jimmy Phillips, Roger Matthews, Mike DesRuisseaux, Boyd Gist, Heath Green, Landon Tatum & Josh James. 

The family would like to thank Greenhill Volunteer Fire Department, Air Evac Life team, Huntsville Hospital, Florence Nursing & Rehab, NAMC ICU and 5th floor.  A special thanks to Dr. Robert Mann.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Shiloh Cemetery Fund, 149 County Road 366, Florence, AL, 35634 or North Alabama Christian Children’s Home, 5501 County Road 63, Killen, AL, 35645.
