Gary Brent Looney, age 85, went to be with the Lord on August 3, 2025. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend whose life was marked by deep faith, loyalty, and love for his family.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Faylah Looney, and his son-in-law, Terry Laws. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Faye Franklin Looney; his son, Michael Brent Looney (Kelli); and his daughter, Kimberly Faye Laws (David Springer). He was a proud grandfather to Tanner Looney (Katelin), Abby Laws Clifft (Jake), and Jacob Laws, and a cherished great-grandfather to Josslin Looney, Conrad Looney, Olive Clifft, and Samuel Clifft. He is also survived by his sisters, Sherry Peters and Vicki Gallien (Tom), along with many extended family members and dear friends.

Gary was a faithful member of Loretto First Baptist Church in Loretto, TN, and proudly served as a member of The Stainless Lodge #580 in Iron City, TN and the United Auto Workers. He was a dedicated worker, spending many years at Ford Motor Company in Sheffield, AL, until its closing in 1983. He later worked at General Motors in Decatur, AL, and Spring Hill, TN, where he retired in 1995.

Those who knew Gary knew he was a man of great faith who loved God and walked through life with a joyful heart. He laughed easily, loved everyone, and often reminisced about his younger years growing up in Iron City. Papa will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his kind spirit, and the legacy of love he leaves behind.

Visitation will be on Thursday, August 7, 2025, from 11:00am – 2:00pm, at Loretto First Baptist Church.  The funeral service will follow at 2:00pm, at the church, with Bro. Kevin Cheatham & Paul Henry Mason officiating.  Burial will be at Restview Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tanner Looney, Jacob Laws, Jake Clifft, David Springer, Tom Gallien, Chris Lumpkins, and Anthony Potts.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to support macular degeneration research—a cause close to Gary’s heart.

Greenhill Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
