The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a reported theft from a rental property in the county after an initial response by the Lawrenceburg Police Department led to jurisdictional clarification. Deputies were dispatched to 414 1st Street following a report of missing property related to a home remodeling project. The complainant, who is also renovating a second residence on Buffalo Road in Ethridge, reported that several items had disappeared after a lawn care service had recently mowed the yard. Among the items reported missing were a set of deer antlers, a full five-gallon gas can, and a small step stool. The complainant said the antlers were later seen at a nearby residence and were retrieved after speaking with someone at that location. Additional missing items were discovered afterward. The complainant suggested that the lawn care worker may have taken the items, although investigators noted that other individuals—including transients—frequently access unoccupied dwellings. The total value of the missing property is under $100. The lawn care worker was contacted and stated that any items taken may have been placed in the vehicle accidentally, and that personal fuel was used during the job. The conversation was recorded on body camera but did not involve a formal interview or detention. The case remains under review, with the possibility of more missing items to be reported.
