A coordinated drug enforcement effort by the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office and the 32nd Judicial District Drug and Violent Crime Task Force led to multiple arrests and the issuance of 38 warrants on Thursday, July 24, 2025.
During the morning hours, deputies conducted a traffic stop after spotting Thomas Ray driving a black and green Dodge Charger. Ray, who was known to have a suspended license and was on probation, consented to a search of the vehicle. Deputies discovered two glass pipes with residue, a small bag containing approximately 0.49 grams of methamphetamine, and a marijuana grinder.
Ray was arrested and transported to the Lewis County Jail. He is facing charges of possession of methamphetamine, driving on a suspended license, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Later that evening, authorities carried out a probation search at a residence on Mill Avenue. The search uncovered various illegal substances and drug-related items, including over 12 grams of methamphetamine, half a gram of fentanyl, marijuana wax, digital scales, and multiple prescription pills such as Gabapentin, Buprenorphine/Naloxone, and Morphine.
Four individuals—Vonda Mercer, Gwendolyn Shirley, Samantha Spurgeon, and Harley Gallaher—were arrested at the scene and booked into the Lewis County Jail. They face a range of misdemeanor and felony charges, including possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and intent to manufacture, deliver, or sell controlled substances.
The sheriff’s office emphasized its continued commitment to fighting illegal drug activity and protecting the safety of the Lewis County community.
