The National Weather Service has issued Extreme Heat Warnings for both Middle Tennessee and North Alabama, with dangerously high temperatures and heat index values expected to continue through midweek.
In Middle Tennessee, the warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, with heat index values expected to reach as high as 113 degrees.
In North Alabama, the heat warning is in effect from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, and a Heat Advisory will remain in place through 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, with heat index values forecast between 110 and 112 degrees.
These conditions pose a serious risk of heat-related illnesses, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Health and emergency officials across the region urge residents to take the following precautions:
Stay indoors in air-conditioned environments
Drink plenty of water
Avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat hours
Regularly check on the elderly, children, and those with health concerns
Never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles
Local authorities are stressing the importance of taking these warnings seriously and staying weather-aware as the region continues to experience dangerous heat levels.
