A routine traffic stop in Tuscumbia led to a major drug bust earlier this month, resulting in the arrest of a Sheffield man on trafficking charges after authorities discovered 200 suspected fentanyl pills.
According to the Colbert County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and agents with the Colbert County Drug Task Force pulled over a vehicle on Highway 43 near Colbert Memorial Gardens on Thursday, July 10, due to a missing tag. During the stop, officers determined the driver was in possession of narcotics.
Upon being booked into the Colbert County Jail, the suspect produced a concealed bag from his clothing containing approximately 200 pills believed to be fentanyl, according to Drug Task Force Director Curtis Burns.
The driver, identified as 26-year-old Elijah Damonte Horrison of Sheffield, was initially released pending lab verification of the pills. Following confirmation that the pills were indeed fentanyl, arrest warrants were issued, and Horrison was taken back into custody last Thursday.
He is now being held at the Colbert County Jail on a $250,000 bond and faces charges of drug trafficking. Officials say the investigation remains ongoing.
