The Limestone County Sheriff’s Office has arrested three women in connection with a disturbing child sexual abuse case involving a victim under the age of 12.
According to the sheriff’s office, the investigation began following a report filed on July 12 alleging sexual abuse and sodomy of a young child. Authorities say investigators developed probable cause during the course of the investigation and took the following individuals into custody:
Crystal Lee McCart, 38, of Athens, is charged with sexual abuse of a child less than 12. She is being held on a $250,000 bond.
Gayla Michelle Kyle, 50, of Athens, is charged with sodomy. She appeared before a judge for an Aniah’s Law hearing on Monday, where bond was denied.
Monica Anne Campbell, 40, of Elkmont, is also charged with sodomy. She is currently awaiting an Aniah’s Law hearing to determine if she will be held without bond.
Sheriff Joshua McLaughlin said the case is deeply disturbing and emphasized the department’s commitment to ensuring justice is served for the victim. He also commended the work of investigators and acknowledged the support of the Limestone Child Advocacy Center in the ongoing investigation.
The sheriff’s office says the investigation is ongoing, and no additional details are being released at this time.
