The City of Athens has completed the implementation of a new Project 25 (P25) radio system, marking a major upgrade to the city’s emergency communications infrastructure.
The new system enhances interoperability between different radio manufacturers and emergency response agencies, allowing for more reliable and seamless communication during critical incidents. The technology eliminates previous coverage gaps and improves coordination across various parts of the county.
The Athens Police Department and Athens Fire and Rescue have been working toward this upgrade for several years. City officials say the new system significantly improves the ability of first responders to communicate effectively across departments and jurisdictions, ensuring faster and more coordinated responses to emergencies.
The P25 system is now fully operational and expected to be a long-term asset in strengthening public safety across Athens and surrounding areas.
