The National Weather Service has extended a Heat Advisory for much of Middle Tennessee through 8 p.m. CDT on Thursday, July 24, as dangerously high temperatures and humidity continue to impact the area.

Heat index values are expected to reach up to 108 degrees, significantly increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses.

Residents are urged to take precautions by staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged sun exposure, and seeking air-conditioned environments when possible. Officials also encourage checking on vulnerable individuals, including the elderly, children, and those without access to adequate cooling.

If outdoor activity is necessary, wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and limit strenuous tasks to the early morning or evening. Be aware of symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke, and take action immediately if they occur.

The advisory remains in effect until Thursday at 8 p.m. Stay tuned to local forecasts for updates.
