Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office recently completed a two-day tactical training course provided by Task Force 70, a nonprofit foundation dedicated to equipping law enforcement officers in small communities with vital emergency response skills.
Task Force 70 focuses on training officers who often serve in departments with fewer than 10 sworn personnel—part of the 70% of U.S. law enforcement working in towns with populations under 10,000. These departments frequently lack access to advanced training beyond the basic police academy, particularly in handling rare but high-risk tactical emergencies.
The training aimed to better prepare deputies for critical incidents that, while uncommon, can have life-threatening consequences when they occur.
The Sheriff’s Office expressed its gratitude to Task Force 70 for the valuable training. Those interested in supporting the organization’s mission to assist other small agencies can make a monthly donation at tf70.org/donate.
