The National Weather Service has issued Heat Advisories for portions of north central and northwest Alabama as well as much of Middle Tennessee, warning of dangerous temperatures through 7 p.m. Thursday.
In both regions, temperatures are expected to reach the mid-90s, with heat index values between 105 and 109 degrees. The heat risk level has been classified as “Major,” indicating that prolonged exposure could result in heat-related illnesses, particularly for seniors, young children, and those without access to cooling.
Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated
Avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak afternoon heat
Stay indoors in air-conditioned spaces whenever possible
Wear light-colored, lightweight clothing
Local officials are urging residents to check on neighbors, especially the elderly and those without air conditioning. Fans alone may not be sufficient for cooling in extreme heat.
Residents are advised to stay weather-aware and monitor local updates from the National Weather Service.
