The National Weather Service in Huntsville has issued a Heat Advisory for north central and northwest Alabama, in effect from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16. Residents in affected areas, including Florence, Russellville, Huntsville, and Cullman, are urged to take precautions against dangerous heat conditions.
Forecasters predict high temperatures in the mid-90s, with heat index values ranging from 105 to 109 degrees. The heat risk level has been classified as “Major,” meaning prolonged exposure could lead to heat-related illness, particularly for vulnerable populations.
Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
Limit strenuous outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours.
Use air conditioning if available; fans may not provide sufficient cooling.
Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing to help stay cool.
The advisory covers a broad swath of northern Alabama, as indicated in orange on the weather service’s heat advisory map. Officials urge the public to remain weather-aware and check on neighbors, especially the elderly and those without adequate cooling options.
