Tennessee has officially designated the month of July as a time of prayer and fasting, calling for divine mercy and healing across the state. The resolution, House Joint Resolution 51 (HJR0051), was introduced by State Representative Monty Fritts of Kingston and signed into law by Governor Bill Lee on May 2, 2025.
Giles County will mark the observance with a special event on Monday, July 21 at 4:00 p.m. on the courthouse lawn. Representative Fritts will personally read the resolution during the ceremony, which is expected to draw participation from both state and local leaders.
The event will begin with an opening prayer by John DeBerry, a senior advisor to the governor and a respected minister. U.S. Congressman John Rose, who is also running for governor, is scheduled to attend, along with other elected officials.
The bill received broad support from lawmakers in Senatorial District 28. Co-sponsors include State Senator Joey Hensley and State Representatives Clay Doggett, Jody Barrett, Kip Capley, Scott Cepicky, and Todd Warner.
Organizers are encouraging the public to attend and show community support for what they describe as a “historic” moment for Giles County and the state.
