The Huntsville Police Department is warning area residents of a phone scam. Several people have received calls from persons claiming to represent the department. The callers claim that you have missed jury duty and federal warrants have been issued, then demand payment of $1,500 to $10,000, usually through Green Dot cards or Bitcoin. At least one person has already fallen victim to the scam. You are reminded that law enforcement will never call you and demand money or accept payment by way of gift cards, Bitcoin, or wire transfers. If you receive such a call, report it to your local law enforcement agency.
