Jose Cuevas, 65, of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025, surrounded by family who loved him deeply. Born on March 7, 1960, to Nicodemus and Nelida Cuevas, Jose was one of five siblings – Maria, Myrna, Evelyn, and Johnnie – each of whom held a special place in his heart. He was a devoted father to his two daughters, Jodie Hazelwood and Michelle Cuevas, and a proud grandfather to many grandchildren who loved him very much and will carry his memory forward with joy and reverence, Amanda Purser (Mason), Angela Hazelwood, Angelica Kersteins, Nicholas Hazelwood (Lexie), Noah Hazelwood (Taylor), Nathan Hazelwood, Amelia Hazelwood, Ashley Gonzalez, Allan Gonzalez, and Ashiannyz Gonzalez; and six great-grandchildren.
Jose was retired, but he never stopped working hard. Whether under the hood of a car or deep in conversation with someone who needed his advice, he was a man who gave his all. He had a quiet strength and a wealth of knowledge that he shared freely, never asking for anything in return but always giving with kindness.
He loved simple pleasures – watching TV, fixing up his car, and most of all, spending time with this family. He was happiest when surrounded by the people he loved, his deep laugh and warm presence filling the room. His hands told the story of a life well lived – of work, of dedication, of caring.
Jose also had a sharp wit and a strong sense of pride in his heritage. He was known to say, “No self-respecting Puerto Rican cooks rice with a rice maker.” It was one of many expressions that made people laugh – and reminded them of his roots, his standards, and his authenticity.
Jose Cuevas was a man of integrity, humility, and heart. His memory will live on in every story told, every engine turned, and every moment spent with loved ones.
Rest easy, Grandpa Papo. You were deeply loved, and you will be deeply missed.
Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Condolences may be sent by way of our website at www.nealfuneralhome.net.
