Authorities are investigating a series of mailbox vandalisms reported along Busby Road and Bluff Road, with at least six mailboxes confirmed damaged over the Fourth of July weekend.
On July 3, 2025, a deputy with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a residence on Busby Road in response to a report of property damage. Upon arrival, the deputy found that mailbox had been severely damaged, along with a neighboring mailbox belonging to a resident who is confined to a wheelchair.
The mailboxes appeared to have been struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound, according to the report. While on scene, a passing mail carrier informed the deputy that she had also observed damaged mailboxes at two addresses on Bluff Road.
As the deputy was leaving the area, another resident flagged him down to report that his mailbox had been knocked off its post. The resident, a renter, said the mailbox itself was still usable and that he planned to reattach it.
Additional information received at the sheriff’s office on July 7 indicated another damaged mailbox further down Busby Road. No contact information was provided for that resident.
At this time, no suspects have been identified, and it remains unclear whether the incidents were the result of reckless driving, intentional vandalism, or another cause. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office.
