Florence Woman Arrested After Car Theft Attempt

Florence Police arrested Sherry Stapler White Thursday, after she was found inside a car that did not belong to her, attempting to drive away.  The incident occurred at the Sonic on Helton Drive.  The owner was able to jump through the driver’s window and put the vehicle in park.  White then exited the vehicle and assaulted her.  Sonic employees intervened and White fled from the scene before officers arrived.  She was apprehended when she unexpectedly returned to the scene while officers were still present.  She is charged with theft of property in the first degree and is being held under a $30,000 bond.
