The Lawrence County Commission held a special session Monday evening, where commissioners approved a series of important measures aimed at strengthening county services and infrastructure. Chief among the decisions was the adoption of the Fiscal Year 2025–2026 budget, which ensures continued funding for essential services and allows day-to-day operations to move forward without disruption.

In addition to the budget approval, the commission reaffirmed its support for local nonprofits and charitable organizations, underscoring the county’s commitment to community-based programs. Commissioners also approved an interlocal agreement for the joint operation of the Lawrence County Animal Shelter, a move designed to improve efficiency and coordination among local agencies.

The session also brought progress on public health and emergency services. A contract was approved for the construction of a new Health Department office, paving the way for a modern facility to better serve residents. Additionally, a one-time contribution was authorized for Lawrence County Fire & Rescue, providing much-needed support for the county’s emergency response efforts.

Finally, budget amendments were passed for both the county government and the Lawrence County Board of Education to ensure financial stability heading into the new fiscal year.

County leaders expressed their appreciation to all who contributed to the process, emphasizing their continued focus on moving Lawrence County forward.
