A case of identity theft is under investigation in Lawrence County after a local resident reported receiving a fraudulent Verizon bill.
According to the report taken by a sheriff’s deputy, the individual said they received a bill showing one iPad and three Apple iPhones had been added to their account — devices they did not authorize. The phone numbers linked to the new devices did not match the account holder’s number.
The victim was advised by Verizon to file a police report so the company’s fraud department could begin an investigation.
In a separate incident, the same individual also received a Cash App card in the mail that had been opened in their name. The victim confirmed they do not have a Cash App account.
The unauthorized phone activity resulted in a bill totaling $475.09.
The incident remains under investigation by the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department. No further details are available at this time.
