As temperatures soar in the summer, firefighters begin to see an increase in the number of vehicle fires. Heat can contribute to deterioration of components that may result in fuel leaks, electrical malfunctions, or other problems that might spark a fire. Local firefighters have been called to the scenes of two vehicle fires during the past week, as well as one fire involving a lawn tractor. Triple A recommends that you pull over and stop immediately if you notice something is not right with your vehicle. Turn off the engine and get at least 100 feet away, call 911, and refrain from opening the hood or going back into the vehicle to retrieve personal items.
