A group of Muscle Shoals firefighters sprang into action while vacationing in Panama City Beach, rescuing two people caught in a rip current.
Fire Chief John Hyde and two fellow firefighters were relaxing on the beach when they heard cries for help. They quickly grabbed a boogie board and swam out to assist the swimmers, who were struggling in the strong current.
Using the board, the firefighters guided them safely back to shore. Hyde later explained they relied on their training to respond without hesitation.
One of the individuals later said the firefighters’ actions likely saved their lives. Gratitude was also shared on social media after learning their rescuers were from Muscle Shoals. Hyde described the experience as simply being in the right place at the right time.
