In relation to an ongoing case of sexual exploitation, a male from Lawrence County has been detained and charged by TBI special agents with the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Squad. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) provided agents with a cybertip on May 30th that included details about a woman who had been sexually exploited and abused as a minor. Agents discovered throughout the inquiry that Juan Carlos Barturen (DOB 10/16/1978) had repeatedly sexually exploited and raped the victim. Barturen was taken into custody at Nashville International Airport on May 31st by TBI ICAC and Homeland Security Investigations officers with the help of Nashville International Airport police. Barturen is charged with two counts of Statutory Rape by an Authority Figure, one count Soliciting Sexual Exploitation of a Minor/Exploitation of a Minor by Electronic Means, and one count of Especially Aggravated Sexual Exploitation of a Minor. Law enforcement booked him into the Lawrence County Jail where he is being held without bond. The investigation remains active and ongoing. Barturen was known to travel between Tennessee and Florida and the TBI is asking any other potential victims to contact 1-800-TBI-FIND or email TipsToTBI@tn.gov.
