Three People are Shot with Two Dead After Columbia Police Respond to a Shooting Incident

The Columbia Police Department responded to a shooting incident at the 3000 Block of Somerset Lane on Saturday, May 31st, at around 3:07 PM. Officers found three people who had been shot when they arrived. A 46-year-old man named John Bidle was declared dead at the site. The 51-year-old Stacie Wright died during surgery at Vanderbilt Medical Center after being transported. Additionally, a third victim with non-life-threatening injuries was taken to Vanderbilt. The defendant, a 46-year-old man, was arrested and faces two charges of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder. Investigators continue to process the scene, question people, and go through the data. This investigation is likely to result in additional charges. The Columbia Police Department sends its condolences and prayers to the victims’ families as well as to everyone affected by this terrible event.
