Maury County Fire Department units were sent to Chickasaw Park’s boat ramp for a water rescue on Friday, May 23rd at 5:34 PM. An adult male with autism was swept downstream after getting into the water. When two male bystanders noticed the victim suffering, they also dove into the water to try to save him. The three individuals disappeared from the 911 caller’s view as they traveled downriver. When the Maury Regional Emergency Medical Services (EMS) team and the Maury County Sheriff’s Department arrived, they discovered all three people unharmed and safe on the riverbank beneath a rocky cliff several hundred yards downstream. All three patients were successfully recovered after a boat was launched. These two bystanders’ bravery saved a life. This summer, Maury County Fire Department is urging boaters, kayakers, and swimmers to wear Coast Guard-approved life jackets when participating in water sports. Maury County 911 received special recognition for their outstanding response to this call.
