Results from the Lawrenceburg City Council Meeting

The Lawrenceburg City Council met on Thursday, May 22nd at 9:00 AM in the Council Meeting Room in the Municipal Complex located at 25 Public Square. The agenda included; public hearing ordinances and resolutions. The ordinances are amending ordinance number 789 entitled the “Zoning Ordinance of the City of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee”, adopting the annual budget and tax rate for the fiscal year beginning July 1st, 2025 and ending June 30th, 2026, and lastly vacating a tract of land that was discussed in the previous meeting. Resolutions included accepting the bid and enter into a contract with Deman Mechanical, LLC for replacement of the Crockett Theater HVAC system. Here are the results from the ordinances and resolutions. First, the Council did amend and approve ordinance number 789. Next, the Council reviews the budget beginning July 1st, 2025 and ending on June 30th, 2026. The Municipal Budget Law of 1982 requires that the governing body of each municipality adopt and operate under an annual budget ordinance presenting a financial plan with at least the information required by the source expect in accordance with a budget ordinance and that the governing body shall not make any appropriations in excess of estimated available funds. At the end of the current fiscal year the governing body estimates balances for General Fund at $3,689,348, Sanitation Fund at $1,396, State Street Aid Fund at $622,832, Drug Fund at $57,203, Mimosa Cemetery Fund at $72,376, Disaster Fund at $26,219, and Capital Project Funds are still being estimated. There is hereby levied a property tax of $1.0976 per $100 of assessed value on all real and personal property. This shall take effect July 1st, 2025, the public welfare requiring it. Next, was the tract of land in the city of Lawrenceburg between Depot Street and First Street. This was approved and the main desire is to update the property. This does not affect or take away from the community, only updates the property. Resolutions included accepting the bid and entering into a contract for improvements to the Historic Crockett Theater. This was approved and the council discussed that he replacement of the HVAC will all around improve the quality of the theater. The new system will reduce noise and help to amplify acoustics for a better show.
