Athens Is The Second Fastest Growing City In Alabama

Athens was named as the second fastest-growing city in Alabama according to the US Census Bureau.

With a population of 32,587 in 2024, the city saw a growth of 1,641 residents since 2023, marking a 5.3% increase. This makes Athens second, just behind Foley, which led the state with a 12% growth rate.

The Limestone County Economic Development Association said this growth can be attributed to the city’s strategic location, thriving business environment and quality of life.
