Larry Eugene Noble, 83, of Pulaski, Tennessee, passed away peacefully in assisted living after a long and humble life marked by faith, family, and a spirited love for girls basketball.
Born July 21, 1941, in Vienna, Illinois, Larry was the son of Rev. Lloyd Noble and Frances Owen Noble, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also predeceased by his beloved sister, Doris, and two brothers, Terry and Steve Noble.
Though he began his education in seminary with hopes of following in his father’s ministerial footsteps, Larry ultimately chose a different path—one that brought him into classrooms, church pews, and basketball bleachers. He taught Sunday School for many years at the First Church of the Nazarene in Shelbyville, Tennessee, where his gentle spirit and deep faith made a lasting impact on generations of young believers.
Larry had a deep and abiding passion for girls basketball in Shelbyville, cheering from the stands with the enthusiasm of a devoted coach and the loyalty of a lifelong fan. His love for the game was matched only by his care for others.
He worked for several years at Heil Quaker in southern Tennessee, where he was known for his steady work ethic and dry wit. After the death of his father, Larry lived with his mother Frances in Petersburg, Tennessee, and continued to care for her until her passing. He then lived independently before transitioning into assisted living in Wheel and eventually Pulaski.
Larry briefly served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged due to medical reasons. Though his military service was short, it reflected his willingness to serve and contribute in every chapter of his life.
Larry is survived by three brothers: Phillip (Lynn) of Green Valley, Arizona; Walter (Wanda) of Nashville, Tennessee; and Daniel of Ventura, California. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who remember him fondly for his humor, stories, and unwavering support.
Memorial Services will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Petersburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 333 Russell St, Petersburg, TN with Troy Green officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you shoot a free throw in his honor—or better yet, cheer on a girls’ basketball game in your town. Larry would’ve liked that.
Rest easy, Larry. You kept the faith, stayed true to yourself, and never missed a chance to root for the home team.
