An Intoxicated Truck Driver Caused Six Collisions, One Resulting in a Fatality

According to FOX54, on Friday, May 9th, a truck driver who is suspected of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and causing at least six collisions, including one fatality, along a 27-mile section of I-65 is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, May 13th. John Walter McAdams was charged with four crimes, including murder, and taken to the Limestone County Jail. According to reports, his blood alcohol level was .08. William Hardrick, a football player at Austin Peay State University in Tennessee, was killed in one of the collisions at the age of 22. At least one vehicle is struck by McAdams in his red semi tractor-trailer that repeatedly veers off the highway in footage that FOX54 was able to capture. The truck caught in flames at the Morgan County exit ramp where the drive came to an end. The Tennessee River Bridge was among the impacted areas; it was apparently destroyed by the truck or the cars that were pushed off the road. McAdams’ first court appearance and bond hearing in Limestone County are set for Tuesday, May 13th at 2:00 PM. In pending legal proceedings, he was detained without bond on the murder charge. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is leading the inquiry, which involves several agencies.
