A Minor is Detained in Sheffield for a Terrorism Threat Against a Local School

According to Shoals Insider, the Sheffield Police Department has detained a minor in relation to a social media terrorism threat against Sheffield City Schools. On Wednesday, May 7th, when school officials saw a troubling post online, authorities were notified of the threat. In order to protect students and employees, Sheffield Police opened an investigation right after and stepped up their presence at the school the next day. The 17-year-old female suspect was found in Florence and arrested; she has no known connection to either Florence City Schools or Sheffield. After being taken to a juvenile detention center, the teenager is currently facing charges involving making a terrorist threat. According to Sheffield Police Chief Chris Tate, the police are still looking into the matter and encourage anyone who sees suspicious or threatening activity—especially in relation to schools—to report it. Because of her age, the suspect’s name is not being made public.
