Lawrence County Fire Chief, Jay Moore, addressed the City Council on Thursday, May 8th in regards to the status of the fire department. Moore gave detailed data sheets that covered the year 2024 stats and the beginning of 2025 stats. For the year of 2024, the department responded 2,518 calls for service. Some of the calls that pertain to this yearly total include; authorized controlled burning, 157, lift assists, 158, public service, 47, motor vehicle accident with injuries, 152, building fire, 33, medical assist, assist with EMS crew, 216, and EMS call, excluding vehicle accident with injury 1,303. This year, from January 1st to April 30th, 2025, the department has responded to a total of 806 calls for service. These calls include; authorized controlled burning, 47, lift assists, 68, public service, 18, motor vehicle accident with injuries, 19, building fire, 11, medical assist, assist with EMS crew, 37, and EMS call, excluding vehicle accident with injury, 436. Reports also show that the department has responded to 197 multiple calls for service. This involves multiple units being sent to different areas to respond at the same time. The dedication the department gives each day to the city and county is always appreciated.
