Randy Boyd, president of the University of Tennessee System, will recommend Dr. Melinda Arnold, special assistant to the president at Texas A&M University–Texarkana, to be the next chancellor of the University of Tennessee Southern. In the upcoming weeks, the UT Board of Trustees will have a special meeting to discuss Boyd’s recommendation. Arnold’s first day as chancellor is July 1st, 2025, subject to board approval. Arnold, a seasoned higher education leader with over twenty years of experience, has held a number of academic leadership positions aimed at increasing enrollment, establishing highly sought-after academic programs, and extending access. The UT Southern chancellor reports directly to the UT System president as the senior executive officer of the institution and a member of the UT System leadership team. In addition to overseeing strategic plans and leading initiatives related to student accomplishment, financial responsibility, community engagement, and institutional growth, the chancellor is responsible for promoting academic excellence. Congratulations to Dr. Melinda Arnold on her recommendation as the newest Chancellor at the University of Tennessee Southern.
