After pawning a computer filled with child porn, a man now faces 40 years. A federal grand jury indicted 41-year-old Jared Dabbs, who pleaded guilty to all counts. Dabbs pawned his laptop at Big Boss Pawn and Gun in Giles County, Tennessee. When the pawn shop owner checked the laptop to ensure it was functional, he discovered child sexual abuse material on it and notified police enforcement. Dabbs was identified as the person who pawned the computer. The next day, law enforcement investigators conducted a search order on the defendant’s laptop, discovering photographs of child sexual abuse material, including images the defendant created of the juvenile victim. The same day, investigators in Giles County seized a number of electronic devices. Following his arrest, Dabbs was interviewed by law enforcement officers, and he admitted to creating sexual abuse material of the minor victim, having sexual contact with the minor victim on several occasions, and downloading and viewing child sexual abuse material on multiple electronic devices. Giles County Sheriff, Joe Purvis, stated “We have always had a good relationship with Homeland Security. In this situation, the community is what helped us to uncover this case. This is why it is so important to have a strong connection with the community and the pawn shop owners without hesitation knew who to call.” Following his incarceration, Dabbs will be on supervised release for five years and must register as a sex offender. The court also sentenced Dabbs to pay $69,600 in restitution.
