After deliberation, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers stated it will take a little longer than anticipated to fix the gate at Wilson Dam’s main lock in Florence. According to USACE, the gate repair project has seen a minor setback and is now expected to conclude in early July rather than mid-June. The delay has been caused by complicated scheduling, weather, and technical issues. In order to uncover and replace broken pieces, crews have been working nonstop, even moving the enormous 650-ton gates. The USACE crew is working diligently to reopen Wilson Lock and begin shipping cargo as soon as possible. All employees were safe despite the river levels rising due to recent heavy rains, which almost reached the caisson barrier. Remember if in the area to use caution and keep in mind that crews will be at work.
