About a month ago, narcotics investigators from the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office and the Athens Police Department started investigating David Lee Johnson for drug trafficking. Johnson was accused of transporting significant amounts of marijuana from out of state using his truck. The Athens Police Department carried out a search warrant at Johnson’s home on Limestone County’s Wales Road on April 18th, 2025. Officers found about 45 pounds of marijuana that is worth $72,000, 656 THC-containing consumables, 8 long guns, 6 pistols, and $2,542.00 in US currency during the search. After the search, Brenda Jean Lucas, 53, and David Lee Johnson, 58, were taken into custody on charges of Trafficking in Cannabis. Following the posting of a $100,000.00 bond, both were released on April 20th, 2025.
