Lewis County Schools Make Several Upgrades to Ensure Safety

Lewis County Schools have made several improvements to ensure the safety of all students and staff. The schools have taken precautions and have placed a School Resource Officer in each school. These officers are trained in law enforcement and to be mentors and role models for students. Their presence in the school provides immediate response to emergency situations and creates a positive impact for the community and school. Two-way radios have also been a new addition to communicate during day-to-day operations or emergency situations. This allows teachers and officers to immediately contact someone for assistance. This addition has resulted in quicker response times and been very effective. Security measures have been taken as well for the entrance of the school. Door window film has been added to the exterior doors and key card entry systems have been installed. The window film adds a layer of protection to slow down the entry process and allows members to act quick in an emergency situation. The key card entry systems only allow authorized staff members to enter and ensures to keep track of who has entered the building. These are great improvements made to the schools and as always keeping students’ safety at the top of the list for priorities.
