More Details Over a Case Involving a Lawrence County Man Arrested for Stalking and Harassment

Following a recently released news story, a local Lawrence County man was arrested on Monday, April 7th and is now facing criminal charges of Stalking and Harassment. The original violation date was on April 8th, 2024 and has been filed as of April 7th, 2025. Lawrence County Sheriff John Myers released a statement giving information about the charges for Joshua Matthew Byrd and described the process that led to those charges to be lengthy. The process also involved other agencies such as the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. Other statements from officials have been released including from the 22nd Judicial District Attorney Brent Cooper stating, “I can confirm that after an investigation by the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, Matthew Byrd has been charged with Stalking and Harassment. Each of those offenses is a Class A Misdemeanor, carrying a maximum punishment of 11 months and 29 days in jail. Mr. Byrd, like all persons charged with a crime, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law”. The hearing date for the case is set for Tuesday, April 22nd at 9:00 AM in Lawrence County.
