Michael Wayne (Donnie “Duck”) Murks Obituary
Michael Wayne Murks (Donnie “Duck”) born July 19, 1949, passed away at home, peacefully in his sleep April 7, 2025. He served his community honorably for 21+ years in law enforcement, this included the City of Minor Hill, TN, the state of Alabama, and the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department. Mr. Murks also served his country honorably in the US Navy.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lessie Idell Green Walters; fathers, Horace Clellon Murks and Thomas Allen Walters; three brothers, Bob Murks, Junior Murks, and Milton Walters; and three sisters, Joyce Thigpen, Nell Newton, and Eythel Scott.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Jennifer Fisher Murks; three sons, Michael Murks (Jeana), Rodney Murks (Jill), and Jonathan Dillard (Miranda); the mother of his children, Shirley Bivens Futch; five grandsons, David Murks (Whitley) Austin Murks, Cody Murks (Kara), Kobe Dillard (Carly), and Zachary Murks; one granddaughter, Audrey Dillard, all of Summertown, TN; one great-grandson, Carter James Murks; and one great-grandson on the way, Jayce Michael Murks; three sisters, Jeanene Perry (Donnie) of Dallas, GA, Judy Crawford (Tommy) of Ellijay, GA, and Linda Kay Dotson (Doyce) of Loretto, TN; five brothers, Paul David Murks (Evelyn) of Center Hill, AL, Ricky Walters (Rae) of Villa Rica, GA, Willie Walters (Jackie) of Lawrenceburg, TN, Malcolm Walters (Gail) of Loretto, TN, and Allen Walters (Susan) of Loretto, TN; several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Vanderbilt Heart Group and the Vanderbilt Coumadin Clinic.
Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, April 10, 2025, at Neal Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be conducted at Faith Church at 5:00 PM Friday, April 11, 2025, with Steve Gifford officiating. The family suggests memorials be made to the charity of your choice.
